This activity uses the "-at" word family song to help first graders practise blending onsets with the -at rime. Use the video page to introduce or review the pattern. Pages include a short open response, three drag-and-drop decoding activities that check onset–rime matching and reading, and creative show-and-tell tasks so students can demonstrate understanding with voice, drawing or video. Prepare letter tiles, magnetic letters or printed word cards for small-group practice if you want a hands-on partner activity. For the open-ended Think About It page, a high-quality answer names a specific word learned (for example, "cat") and asks a clear question about reading or spelling (for example, "How do you spell flat?"). For the Show It page, look for evidence that the student can blend onset + -at (they say or show at least three correct -at words) and explain or demonstrate confidently. Use simple correct/incorrect grading for these responses when assessing student work manually.
