This activity introduces basic coordinating conjunctions (and, but, or) with child-friendly examples and multiple ways to respond. Use the two-column recap to introduce the idea. Guide students through the vocabulary and the matching exercise. The short multiple-choice item checks basic use. The multimedia and pair activities let students show understanding in speech, drawing, or a short video. Prep: Have drawing supplies, a device for photo/video/voice (tablet or classroom camera), and an area for pairs to share. For the Pair and Share, consider a simple timer (1–2 minutes per turn). High-quality open responses show a clear two-part idea joined by the correct conjunction (e.g., “I want milk and cookies.” for and; “I like apples but not pears.” for but; “Do you want juice or water?” for or). Students who use a conjunction correctly and make two complete ideas earn a correct rating. Responses missing a conjunction or showing incorrect meaning of the conjunction should be marked incorrect so teacher can reteach and give examples.
