Teacher Notes (not visible to students)
This activity introduces students to reasons governments collect taxes using Canada as an example. It mixes short reading, vocabulary practice, matching and sorting, and both auto-graded and open-ended responses. Use the partner activity for conversation practice and collect multimedia responses to assess understanding. Prepare simple materials: paper, pencils, and a classroom device with camera or microphone for recordings. High-quality answers for open responses will show clear reasoning and examples. For the paragraph question, look for students who explain at least two reasons governments collect taxes and give a Canadian example. For multimedia prompts, look for accurate examples, clear explanations, and creative presentation. Grade open responses as correct if the student shows understanding, incorrect if they give incorrect or no reasons.
