This activity accompanies a read-aloud of The Dot. Students listen for key details about Vashti, her teacher's words, and what Vashti does next. Use the video page first. Then guide students through the Think About It prompt and the three Solve It drag-and-drop questions. For the Show It page, prepare simple art supplies (paper, crayons, markers) so students can make a dot picture if they choose. No special materials are required for the multimedia responses. For the Think About It prompt, a high-quality answer names one clear detail learned from the story (example: “Vashti made a dot and then she tried again”) and asks a specific question (example: “How did she feel when she kept drawing?”). For the Show It task, look for creativity and a connection to the story (student shows a dot idea or explains why the dot mattered). For the final reflection poll, use responses to guide follow-up conversations about confidence and trying new things.
