Teacher Notes (not visible to students)
This quick project helps first graders notice 2D shapes in their environment and practice shape vocabulary aloud. Have students work individually or in pairs. Prepare a device for taking photos and recording (tablet or phone). Remind students to pick safe objects and to ask an adult if they need help taking photos or recording. For the open-ended Show What You Know task, look for these qualities in high-quality answers: students submit a clear photo showing the whole object; they say the correct shape name clearly; they point to or circle the shape area in the photo while speaking (optional but strong). A correct response shows the right shape name and a photo that matches the named shape. Partial-quality responses may have a correct photo but unclear audio, or correct naming but a photo where the shape is not obvious. Encourage reteaching for confused responses by revisiting shape attributes (sides, corners, curves).
