Teacher Notes (not visible to students)

This activity guides fourth graders through understanding Red Ribbon Week, the red ribbon’s origin, and practical strategies for making healthy choices and handling peer pressure. Use the video as a whole-class introduction, then have students complete the Think, Solve, Show, and Reflect pages individually or in small groups. No special materials are required beyond the video and access to Seesaw tools; for the Show It partner activity, provide paper and markers if students prefer drawing instead of digital tools. For open-ended responses: a high-quality Think About It answer names a specific thing learned from the video and asks a clear, relevant question showing curiosity (for example: “I learned that the red ribbon honors a law enforcement officer. How can I help a friend who is being pressured?”). For the Show It poster task, high-quality work shows at least two specific healthy choices, a clear slogan or sentence about saying no, and evidence of planning (sketches, labeled parts, or an audio explanation). Teachers may grade open responses simply as correct (meets expectations) or incorrect (does not meet expectations) based on these criteria.
