Teacher Notes (not visible to students)

This activity introduces 2nd graders to halves, quarters, and eighths using coloring, matching, and simple problems. Use paper shapes or printable shapes for students who need tactile practice. For the partner activity, prepare crayons or markers and a camera or tablet for recording. High-quality answers for open-ended items show correct fraction names and reasoning. Students should point to the equal parts and say how many parts are shaded and how many parts make the whole. Accept drawings, voice explanations, or short written sentences. Use simple correct/incorrect grading for the open responses.
