This activity introduces arrays as a visual model for multiplication and repeated addition. It includes quick practice (matching, sorting), assessment (multiple choice and short answer), and creative partner work to show understanding. You can use counters, tiles, or paper squares for hands-on array building. Prep: provide small counters or graph paper for students. For partner activity, each pair needs 10–20 counters or a printed grid. Correct/high-quality answers for open-ended tasks show (1) a clear array drawn or built, (2) correct multiplication equation (rows × columns), and (3) explanation of why that equation matches the array (e.g., “4 rows of 3 means 4 × 3 = 12 because there are 4 groups of 3”).
