This activity set helps students connect food choices to their body and mind and practices research and explanation skills. Use the assessment pages to check facts and understanding; use the matching and sorting activities for vocabulary and categorization practice. Prepare simple food pictures or real food labels for class discussion and a chart for sorting. For the Show It paragraph, ask students to include at least two facts from class (e.g., a food and how it helps the body or mind). A high-quality answer explains the food choice, describes one way it helps the body or mind, and uses at least one supporting fact or example. For the Show It multimedia prompt, expect students to either draw and label a balanced snack or record themselves explaining why they chose those foods; a strong response clearly shows foods chosen, connects each item to body or mind benefit, and speaks or labels legibly. Grade open-ended items as correct if the student gives evidence-based reasons and links food to body or mind, otherwise mark incorrect and provide feedback asking for one clear supporting fact.
